March
to June 2007: Educators run pilot Education Groups in own areas
Educators return to home territories & recruit young people
to participate in local groups. Feedback from success of these ventures
will inform further package refinement. If you'd like to know whether
there's a group planned in your area contact Moira Carmody by email
at m.carmody@uws.edu.au.
February
2007: Educator Programme
The group of experienced educators was carefully recruited. All
came to UWS for a one-week intensive programme introducing the pilot
Education Package. The package was further developed in light of
Educator feedback.
December
2006: Report launch & educator recruitment
The project enters Stage 2 with a call for experienced educators
- skilled in working with young people - to be trained to run the
program in their areas.
The report titled
"Developing ethical sexual lives: young people, sex
and sexual assault prevention" was launched on December
8 2006. It details Stage 1 of the project & explores how young
women and men of diverse sexualities from rural and city areas negotiate
sexual intimacy, and canvasses their views on sexual assault prevention
education. A PDF version of a four-page summary of the report is
downloadable
here.
October
to November 2006: Report writing
July
to September 2006: Data analysis
April
to June 2006: Continuing participant interviews
– including young women &
men in the bush
Young people’s experiences - their joys, fears, anxieties
about sex - as well as asking how they negotiate this intimacy -
are often invisible in framing anti-violence education. This research
will begin with interviewing young women and men of diverse cultural
backgrounds and sexualities.
February
& March 2006: Interviewing young women and men
The project reached the stage of recruiting participants to be interviewed.
We were seeking 90 respondents - young women & men (16-25) who
are:
- Having sex,
choosing not to have sex, not sure about sex or not sure who they
want to have sex with
- Living in
or around:
- Inner
city Sydney
- Penrith
- Northern
Beaches
We believe that
prevention education should have a primary focus on this age group
and include men as well as women. Want to know more? See Ask
a Question for more detailed information.
